He Was 90 Years Old.

When Dennis first began his missionary work in the mountains of Peru, he encountered people who had lived their entire lives without ever clearly hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

One of them was a 90-year-old man.

For most of his life, he had lived in the mountains of Peru. Like many others in the region, he had been surrounded by religious teaching, but he had never clearly understood the Gospel—the good news that salvation comes through Jesus Christ.

In May of Dennis’ first year of ministry, he had the opportunity to visit this elderly man and share the Gospel with him.

Dennis explained the message of Jesus Christ and what He had done so that sinners could be forgiven and receive eternal life.

The man responded.

He called upon the Lord, received Jesus Christ, and trusted Him for the forgiveness of his sins.

For Dennis, it was a moment he would never forget.

But there was something else he could not have known that day.

Seven months later, the man passed away.

His time on earth was nearly finished when Dennis came to his home—but God had provided an opportunity for him to hear the Gospel clearly and respond to it.

The man’s story didn’t end with his death.

He left behind his wife, his daughter, and her four children who lived with him. Dennis continues to minister to those members of his family today.

One life. One family. One eternal decision.

This is why Dennis goes.

It is why he travels the difficult roads into the mountains. It is why he walks from village to village, visits families in their homes, teaches the Bible, and returns again and again.

Because every person needs the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

And sometimes, that opportunity comes just when we least expect it.
