A Divine Appointment

A New Door Has Opened

From an Ice Cream Cone to the Rainforest

For several years, I had an interest in visiting the rainforest in Perú. But I never felt comfortable simply going there as a tourist. God had called me to minister in the mountain regions of Perú, and I wanted to stay focused on that calling.

Then, in January 2026, something unexpected happened.

I was in Lima taking care of some business before returning to the United States when I stopped to buy an ice cream cone in a plaza near where my wife’s family lives.

While I was there, I began talking with the teenage girl who was selling the ice cream about Jesus.

She invited me to the church she attended.

I accepted her invitation, and while visiting her church, I met her pastor—a man who had been born in the rainforest.

We began talking about ministry in that region of Perú, and he invited me to visit his hometown with him.

That invitation opened a door I never expected.

San Hilarion

In July 2026, I traveled with him to his hometown of San Hilarion in the San Martín region of Perú.

And God did some amazing things.

I was invited to speak to more than 300 elementary-aged school children and more than 250 high-school-aged students in two different assemblies.

During those meetings, more than 300 children called on the Lord Jesus for salvation.

But God wasn’t finished opening doors.

After the meetings, the mayor of the village invited me to look at some unused land on the outskirts of town. The government wanted to donate the property to an organization willing to commit to building a facility that could be used for the good of the community.

The first thing that came to my mind was a children’s home.

I shared that thought with the leaders of the village, and they asked me to provide documentation confirming that our ministry had the resources available to build the home. If we can verify the funding, they would sign the land over to our ministry.

NEWS FLASH…

I don’t have anywhere near the amount of money that would be needed to build a children’s home.

The estimated construction cost is $100,000.

But I have seen God provide greater things than that.

And that’s exactly what would be needed to build this home.

So I’ve begun praying—and asking others to join me in praying—that God will provide the resources to build a children’s home in the rainforest of Perú.

The Next Step

I plan to return to San Hilarion in October to begin working on the planning stages and groundwork for the home.

I believe God is in this.

I will also begin looking for a place where we can disciple the children who called on the Lord during our visit in July.

Sharing the Gospel with them was only the beginning.

Now comes the work of teaching, discipling, and helping them grow in their faith.

A Church. A Home. A Future.

What began with an ice cream cone and a conversation about Jesus has opened a door into the rainforest of Perú.

I don’t know yet how God will provide everything that will be needed.

But I know He is able.

So we’re praying.

We’re trusting.

And we’re taking the next step.

“…unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
— Acts 1:8
